Dear Parents and Guardians,
This time of year would normally be full of excitement as we wrap up the school year and plan for end of the year ceremonies and activities. As we know, this school year has brought many new obstacles, frustrations, and challenges. With very little notice, schools had to move from traditional teaching to online programs, ZOOM classes, and email support. You, as parents, were thrown into a situation just as challenging. I want to thank each of you for your patience and support through this journey as our teachers, our campus, and our district learned how to do everything virtually.
This Friday, May 15, will be the last required day for students to log on. Lessons and activities will be provided through Wednesday, May 20. These are recommended but not required.
Monday, May 18th we will start the process of item return/retrieval to allow students the opportunity to return or retrieve items from Williams. Our pre-k through 4th grade parents will be allowed to pick up your child’s items curbside from the campus by student’s last name between 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. on the following days:
Monday, May 18th: A - L
Tuesday, May 19th: M - Z
The curbside pick up will operate as a car rider line so you do not need to leave your car. This will take place on the Buddy Riley side of the school where parents normally pick up students.
Items for parents/students to return:
MISD issued Chromebooks
Student supplies/personal items - We will have each student’s school supplies, pencil boxes, and personal items from the classroom bagged with the student’s name ready
Yearbooks - Students that ordered yearbooks will receive them at this time.
Because we are still not allowed to have students in the building, kindergarten graduation will be a “Graduation Drive Through.” Our kindergarten teachers and other staff members will be lined up on the Buddy Riley side of the school with signs, noisemakers, and other celebration items to recognize each kindergartener as he/she rides through. Students will be given a certificate and a yard sign so that they can proudly share their accomplishment with all the neighbors. This will take place on Wednesday, May 20 from 10am until noon. Students that are unable to attend will receive their certificates in the mail.
Pre-K will have an end of the year celebration via ZOOM on Wednesday, May 20 at 6:30 pm. There will be singing, dancing, and virtual awards. Hope to see you there!
We are very excited to announce the first WES Family & Faculty Stay at Home Spectacular! We are collecting videos on Flipgrid from families and faculty that showcase the talents, creativity, and amazing zest of our WES community. In an effort to connect and celebrate the end of the year together, we will host a Live Watch Party of the (edited) videos online on May 20th at 7pm. Students should have received all of this information from their teacher, but those who did not and are wanting to submit a video should reach out to their teacher for further instructions.

I know that many of you are very anxious to know about next year. We have not yet received guidance on what next year will look like. At this time, we are planning to welcome our students back in August while preparing many different procedures to keep our students and staff safe. With that being said, we are also training our teachers and staff so that we are fully prepared in the event that we should have to move to full or partial online classes. The year 2020 will definitely be a year that no one will forget.
We miss seeing your children every day and look forward to seeing them next school year!
